AVG’s malware scan employs machine learning, heuristics, and an online malware database in order to detect emerging threats. It scored highly in our tests and has excellent advanced scanning and deep scanning performance. After a simple installation, the program launches its first “Smart Scan” to conduct a thorough scan of your computer for threats and malware. The modern and clean interface allows you to easily launch scans or navigate the other features. It includes recognizable thumbnails and headings to help you quickly determine what each feature does. Premium subscribers enjoy a number of extra bonus features that aren’t included in the free version, including “Webcam Protection”, which blocks access to your webcam, making video chats more secure, and “Sensitive Data Shield” which protects your private files. Other paid programs from AVG offer additional features like a performance tune-up or password manager.
The mobile application of AVG comes with a variety of features, including the ability to remotely secure your Android device or wipe it (Android only) and a photo vault which allows you to securely share files. The most popular mobile feature, though, is the anti-theft function, which can help you locate a lost smartphone or tablet and can even sound a siren to disorient it.
