Avast’s powerful malware engine has a perfect detection rate in my tests and its web security is solid too. It was able to identify numerous phishing websites that got through Chrome and Firefox’s default security. The sophisticated anti-tracking and other tools are useful. Sandboxes and file reputation scans allow you to navigate through suspicious documents with confidence.

While Avast’s UI is simple to use however, its data sharing practices and lack of parental controls are negatives. Luckily, the company has a strong refund policy.

Avast’s subscription plans include the Basic, Premium, and Ultimate packages. The Premium package comes with a sandbox for running suspect files, whereas the Ultimate version adds a PC performance optimizer and a password manager. The premium plans of Avast also include a decent VPN however it comes with limitations on bandwidth and doesn’t have a no-logs policy. However, despite these flaws, Avast is still one of the better antivirus programs. The interface is simple and the majority of its major features come with brief explanations attached to them that explain the function they serve. In addition, the program comes with a search function that allows you to locate settings that you’re looking for quickly.
